Being an extreme "newbie" I made my lute playing debut last February accompanying the choral music director, Jared Anderson, at Northland College in my little town of Ashland, Wisconsin. Jared waited 'til three weeks before the program to decide repertoire, and when I saw the selections, "In Darkness", Who Ever Thinks Or Hopes", "Flow My Teares", and "Can She Excuse", plus Rosseter's "When Laura Smiles", I was pertified. Dowland was a consummate player and, basically, wrote things that he was able to play. I'd only had the instrument a few months, and although I've known the basics of reading lute tablature for years, I had never really sat down and done it. Baptism by fire. Many thanks to Ed Martin for his invaluable help and very musical approach to interpreting these songs. In spite of left hand tendonitis from over-practicing, I made it through. And I have to agree - "Who Ever Thinks Or Hopes" is a fine song. Tom Tom Draughon Heartistry Music http://www.heartistry.com 714 9th Avenue West Ashland, WI 54806 715-682-9362
