I did for a while. I found wear and tear to be less bad than I
expected, but changed to no-nails for more variety in tone colour and
dynamics. And I went down in string tension, and found that to go
better with n-nails. But I loved nails. Nails were great for a clear
and strong tone. Singing quality. Amplifier on clean and 11: no
distortion but a sining tone! More sustain in my ears, but that might
have been between my ears. Nails on gut on a theorbo are a historic
option (and by extenion on baroque guitar, as b-guitar was often
played by theorbo players, if I have my facts straight here), just as
they are on Romantic guitar.
