Well, in American it's "Bite the bullet," which is what is done in old
Westerns when one undergoes surgery sans anesthetic, but I love the word
whilst, which we no longer have. But, my understanding of the phrase
"Grasp..." was to grasp the iron whilst it's malleable, i.e. take
advantage of a fleeting opportunity. I assumed one would do this with
suitable protection and thus avoid the taste of a sour apple.
