Uwe keep his bundled installer (or perhaps LyX distribution)

I have been rude so allow me to act like this one more time. IMHO,
svn/trunk is for the development of lyx that can include lyx-related
source files, development and packaging files. If LyXWinInstaller
works as a test-bed for the official installer and will merge its
features to the official one, it can go in (although a branch is more
appropriate); if it aims at replacing the official installer, it can
go in; if it can benefit developers (note that *not* users) in some
way, it can go in. Otherwise, I see no point of keeping its activities
in the trunk. A branch will serve Uwe's purpose well.

When you say branch, do you mean like what we find here

        http://www.lyx.org/trac/browser/lyx-devel/branches

Or do you mean what we find here
