A matter of taste probably. Personally, I find the information helpful if I'm somewhere inside a rather large appendix/frontmatter/backmatter. I agree though, that the mainmatter should not be marked, since it is the "normal" form. So what I have in mind is something like: ---------------------- Frontmatter ---------------------------- | text text text text text text text text text text text text | | text text text text text text text text text text text text | | text text text text text text text text text text text text | | text text text text text text text text text text text text | | text text text text text text text text text text text text | ------------------------Mainmatter----------------------------- text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text ----------------------- Backmatter ---------------------------- | text text text text text text text text text text text text | | text text text text text text text text text text text text | | text text text text text text text text text text text text | | text text text text text text text text text text text text | | text text text text text text text text text text text text | --------------------------------------------------------------- > So what about this?: \*matter is set via the document menu, but appears as > proposed only once in the text and in the outliner/TOC We could make the appearance custimizable easily. After all, this is just about drawing two lines or not. >That would indeed be useful. Richard's todays new InTOC feature will make > this possible as far as I saw. I'm not sure. That would mean that *matter and appendix should be implemented as insets. I don't think this is the way to go, technically. Jürgen
