Well, I didn't know there was software that didn't support Ctrl+S, so we
have both learnt something.

Although a web search shows that DOS edit and some versions of notepad
prior to Win2000 didn't support Ctrl+S.

I am curious as to what software you use that doesn't support Ctrl+S. Not
supporting Ctrl-S sounds like a bug in this day and age. Would it make sense
to file a bug with them to support Ctrl-S? (Or just edit their keybindings
if programmable)

Also the LyX menus should have their hotkeys listed to the right of their
item. E.g. "Save Ctrl-S". You could look at the menu items you use a lot
and make a note of the Hotkeys. If you want to put a bit more effort in you
can even create you own hotkeys. See:
