Nothing. If I middle-clicked on a tab, it was an accident.

Same as 1a and 1b.

Given that I have never had the impulse to middle-click either place, and
that it's hard to do accidentally on my laptop and not terribly easily on my
desktop, as far as I'm concerned you have carte blanche to assign anything
lawful to either.
