A student of mine have the exact same problem on a laptop with Windows 10, and I tried to help her fix it: the log didn’t seem to contain any error (!)—I copy it below— so I reinstalled MikTeX and LyX, reconfigured LyX, but to no avail. It keeps doing the same thing. Any idea? Should she try to install an older version? By the way, I had trouble on her system trying to synchronize the MikTeX repository and got this kind of error (MiKTeX Problem Report

There are two separate things going on here. The MiKTeX output indicates that MiKTeX could not make a server connection when trying to update itself. That's got nothing to do with LyX; it might be a temporary server problem, it might mean you need to switch to a mirror, or it might be something fundamental screwed up with MiKTeX. I think Uwe mentioned something about server problems in a different thread, so you might want to search an archive of the mailing list for that ... or just retry the update.

The LaTeX log from LyX indicates that a one page document was successfully compiled and written to newfile1.pdf. What's the problem with it?

Paul
