How can I check for memory leakage more concretely to give a more
precise diagnostic?
Hello Bernt,
This is not acceptable indeed. To see if the issue is related to a memory
leak, you can try to use Task Manager or Resource Monitor to see whether the
memory use of LyX grows, and whether it grows enough to trigger swapping.
But if memory is not tight, a memory leak does not in itself cost
performance. Therefore, there may be other issues at stake. However,
"working for a few hours" is not something that I can reproduce easily.
(especially if we do not do the same actions).
@Windows_experts: are there tools that could be used to profile a work
session (and that are not too annoying performance-wise)? What kind of data
do they require? A version of LyX with debug information?
Not sure if related, but Jürgen fixed an issue that had symptoms of a
memory leak (although not technically a memory leak):

From what I understand, the fixes should be in 2.5.0, so perhaps the above is
not related at all.
But it's possible further similar fixes are needed.

Just to clarify: That issue that Scott mentioned above was completely
freezing LyX. As he said, it may related.
I occasionally experience a sluggishness after a few hours of use as
well. It appears in the form of slowness in the cursor movement. I.e.,
when I navigate in the text using arrow keys, it is quite slow and takes
quite a while to move to cursor to the desired location. I initially
felt that this was something related to Spell Check or equations, but
never able to re-generate the sluggishness manually. It is similar to
the slowness of the cursor in Word when it is doing the spell check, and
probably many of us experienced smtg similar in Word.
BTW, the sluggishness I experienced after long usage was not specific to
2.4.x or 2.5.0; it is something I have experienced even with Lyx 2.2.x
or 2.3.x. Yet it was not happening all the times that I have long usage,
so it is difficult to catch.
