Hello,

Although I can't offer much help, I can confirm this problem. I have
tried doing various things to get LyX to number equations (or label them),
but nothing seems to work. I've also read the page (numbering.php3). My
exact steps were:

1) Be in math editing mode.

2) Click on the bottom bar and type in "math-number".

3) All I get is the message "(math-number: [M-m n])" in the status bar,
then nothing happens.

I also tried:

1) Be in math editing mode (I tried with the cursor in various parts of
the equation and with none of/some of/whole equation selected).

2) Go to Insert->Label... (I also tried M-m n, but that just echoed my
keystrokes in the status bar for a while [2-3 seconds], then it switched
it back to the file's general status, i.e., telling me that the file has
been changed since the last save).

3) Nothing happens.

I am running 1.1.6fix4 on SunOS 5.7 (which I believe is Solaris 2.7). I
installed the latest tetex, xforms (0.89 -- supposedly 100% backward
compatible), and xpm libraries, and the installation went fine. The
document I am editing is using the 'article' class with no modifications.
This is also the first time I am using LyX, but I did everything the
installation and docs told me to do. The Label dialog does come up if I
am not inside mathed.

One thing I did notice (just as I was typing this email) is that if I open
up the User Guide (Help->User's Guide) and try to add a number/label to an
equation in there, it works. This is extremely puzzling, since I have not
done anything out of the ordinary when creating my document (I know NO
Tex/Latex). All help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sachin.
