Thanks, Jean-Pierre. I have tried to install Ghostscript 8.14, but I get 
the error below. With xpdf, the redisplay is not automatic, but if I 
type R, the redisplay is done with no problem.
 
So it likely a problem between the pdf file and gs.
Thanks again, Jean-Pierre. You may have missed my posterior e-mails to 
the list, in which I said that I was finally able to install GV, by 
using "make install" instead of "checkinstall". However, the problem 
persists. I tend to believe that the problem is GV-specific, as it does 
not happen when I use Kghostview instead of GV. Unfortunately, 
Kghostview is too slow...
