In the German localization, we recently changed the translations to
"Englisch (Großbritannien)" (for "Britain")
"Englisch (USA)" (for "American")
"Englisch (Kanada)" (for "Canadian English")

Maybe we should use this convention [i.e. "Language (variety)"] in general. 
Even though it doesn't solve any political issues, it's at least easier to 
find.
