I think so, I seem to remember when making choices that the blurb said
that the default install included a list of English variants, including
British English.
Can you tell me how I would check, I am on a Mac.

I do not remember though how I installed aspell and its dictionaires. I
might have built aspell from source, but anyhow, there is only ONE
english aspell dictionary that contains all variants:

If you set in LyX 1.5.6 Document Settings to British, you get British
english, if you set American, you get US-Enghlish, and if you set
English, the spellchecker accepts both Brtish and US spelling.
But also I have a question here:
How about the Personal Dictionary? I have different documents in
different variants (some in British and some in US english), and then
there is a problem:
It appears to me that aspell (as called by LyX) does not differentiate
between the language variants for the personal dictionary. Whatever
variant is selected, all entries end up in ~/.aspell.en.pws (I have no
personal dictionary specified in LyX preferences).
Any ideas? How is this handled on Linux?
(I am on Mac here, but it should be just the same.)
