This is not the problem, because I developed the installer on WinXP x64 as well and have MiKTeX in
the same path with spaces.
Does c:\Program Files(x86)\Miktex 2.7\Miktex\bin contain the latex.exe? If yes, can it be that you
don't have admin permissions?
You need admin permissions to be able to install LaTeX packages needed by LyX and to keep MiKTeX up
to date.
