Ah, thanks for the link. That makes it clear what you want to use. This package uses the standard latex command \cite. So, once you have installed this package in your latex distribution, you could use it in LyX by this procedure:

1. Select the default engine in Document > Settings > Bibliography,
2. put the line
\usepackage{authordate1-4}
in Document > Settings > Preamble,
3. select one of the style (authordate1, authordate2, authordate3, or authordate4) in the BibTeX Bibliography settings.
