Thanks! Then why didn't the same error show up on the first machine with
also LyX2.1rc but TexLive 2010?

I'm actually leaning against fixing this duplicate entry problem from the
source file: in scientific collaboration it is often that co-authors have
duplicate entries from their own bib files. Merging them was so much easier
prior to Lyx 2.1
