Welcome to the club. You ‘might’ be able to tell if the battery is original based on the brand name (don’t have one in front of me at present to confirm OEM brands used) or by the soldering job (sometime someone replacing a battery might not do a good job. They are not expensive if you need to replace them. I bought several weeks ago and put the extras up on my website (below) and another group member has some on his website too (arcade shopper).
Also look for signs of leaking around the electrolytic capacitors. I did a video on doing a recap along with a map with part numbers on a M100, but not a 102 (yet). The process will be similar though the part numbers will (likely) be different. A little about myself: I'm 27, if that makes me young for this crowd, and I live in Greensboro, NC. I built one of Glitch (of glitchwrks.com)'s 8085 SBCs at VCF East last year, so I'm interested in using another 8085 machine as my terminal for it. Am I correct in believing that TELCOM on the M102 should work as a dumb terminal "out of the box", with a 3-wire null modem cable in the RS-232 port? I'm going to have to wait a while before I can purchase a REX.
