Thanks Peter. That is interesting. I've tried the usb/serial cable/adapter on my M100 and M102. On both, the screen immediately dims and disappears completely at normal contrast setting; that's at the cold boot menu alone. Same when I'm in Telcom. I have to turn the contrast up to maximum just to be able to read the screen. And this happens whether it's connected to anything or not.
I don't have a "plain" serial cable to try., to see if it's the cable or the Prolific usb part causing the problem. I do have another usb/serial cable/adapter (Wyse), which doesn't cause a dimming problem - but that one isn't recognized by my Dell laptop or desktop. Wyse is now Dell, there are no Wyse drivers to be found, and Win10 says "no driver available" after doing its "internet search". Tom M.
