I had the same experience on my T200 with a serial connection to a Kenwood
handheld radio with built in modem (amateur radio packet TNC). The actual
connection to the radio is only 3-wire but the rs-232 plug on the computer end
had been wired to hold some of the hardware handshake leads high but not others.
I took the plug apart and modified it, but I'm at work now and I can't remember
what I changed. Probably wired DTR to DSR or possibly RTS to CTS. I was
having the exact same symptoms though, where TELCOM would freeze hard as soon
as I connected and typed the first keystroke.
