Thanks for the tip.  I might do that some time.  I don't mind this view but I 
was mainly trying to keep the message from being marked read just because I 
moved the VO cursor over it.  Well, all mail user agents have some issue going 
with them so Apple Mail is no exception.  Anyway, I've found my way around this 
mail client pretty well.
