Just out of curiosity, did you also just turn off v o and leave it off for about 5 to 10 seconds and restart it, and if you did you hear it come up or did you have to move around a bunch before you even heard it say busy?
I know when I had this problem with my old machine using Tiger, a lot of times I wouldn't hear anything until I could command tab to another running application, and sometimes if I hooked on external burner it would just go busy and whatever I did did nothing for it until I did a physical reset with the power button, then it would show in the finder, well on the desktop. That machine will still do that with a burner for that matter, but not with my Olympus Recorder, it does recognize it apparently. So no disk burning on that machine, have to store the file and grab it with this machine to burn it instead but do most of my work on this machine anyway since it's only 6 months old *lol*. That is why previously I had asked what devices you had hooked up. Do other running apps go busy too? Or just finder?
