Hello ryan

I actually agree with your comments here. As somebody who, until this week,
had no plans to upgrade their iPad, I was a little disgusted when I first
learned of the fact that iOS6 won't run on the original iPad. It's hardly
fair, that being the case, to expect people to pay for an Applecare Protection
plan when, to all intents and purposes, the product is soon to be declared
obsolete. Yes, I gather that iOS6 will run on the iPhone 3GS as well as later
and, probably, even later still models in the not too distant future. It
really does take quite a bit of fathoming I must admit. I can also understand
why people might turn to the competitive products in order to stay current with
technology. Not me personally, because I still support what they are doing for
the accessibility and still prefer to show that support by putting my money
where my mouth is, so to speak. But I can understand the logic.

I certainly won't be ditching my original iPad though, just because I have a
later model. Hopefully I can find a good home for it or find a use for it
myself. It is still in mint condition really, and still performs as well as
ever. I even have the keyboard dock for it as well which won't work with the
later iPad. OK, Lynne bought me a new dock, but that isn't really the point.
I'd be astonished if Apple reversed their decision to no longer support the
iPad. But there are more shocks in the pipeline regarding hardware support.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more of a backlash regarding Apple's decision
to end support for the original iPad barely two years after it was introduced.
I wonder if the folks at Apple are setting a precedent here, essentially
telling us that the iPad has a supported lifespan of approximately 2 years.
While I'm fully aware of the rapid pace of technology, Apple's decision in this
instance will cause me to hesitate a bit longer before making my next Apple
purchase.

Also, I'll be interested to hear from them why they've chosen to deny IOS 6
feature upgrades for the original iPad while allowing some of those upgrades
for the iPhone 3GS, a device that was introduced almost a year earlier than the
iPad.

Of course, the folks at Apple have been kind enough to offer all IOS upgrades
for no cost to this point, but if cost is the issue I would certainly be
willing to pay something to have access to IOS 6 or at least the features that
can be supported on the original iPad.

Assuming the folks at Apple don't reconsider and / or don't offer some of the
important feature upgrades in an update to IOS 5, I'll be paying serious
attention to the JB community for the first time,.
