Yes, there is  a list on the Apple website of exactly what Mac support 
Mountain Lion, and there are sure plenty that were released prior to 2011.

    Unless things have changed, there is a 90 day warranty on refurbished Macs. 
 I have bought, at least, 3 of them in my time, and I never had any issues 
using them.  In fact, if you catch the right deal, you can save 200 to 300 
dollars on a model.
