I can't tell you the advantages and disadvantages of getting a refurbished one, but I'm using a refurbished one now that I got from the online apple store. The only advantage I can think of right now is that the refurbished ones may be a little cheaper. I can't answer a lot of questions myself as yet, because I'm still learning.
