hi Chris

Super Duper! is not at all the same. Super Duper! is a volume backup/restore
utility, not a data recovery utility. For the record, yes, we at Mac Access
Dot Net are registered license holders of Super Duper! and also Carbon Copy
Cloner. Lynne actually wrote a very good article highlighting the functions of
these pieces of software. You can find it on our blog page:
<http://blog.mac-ios-access.net/2011/07/07/mac-osx-system-backup/>
So it really isn't quite fair to compare the two applications, as their
functionality is very different.

Data recovery is the sector-level retrieval of deleted data which may not exist
in a backup. What Data Recovery Guru does is to scan a drive/volume sector by
sector and find out what has been deleted and no longer exists in the trash.
It enables you to recover those files as long as the sector on which they
resided has not been overwritten.

I agree with your comments regarding Super Duper! and I would definitely
advocate that anybody who is seriously concerned about the preservation of
their important documents and, indeed, their operating system, would b well
advised to invest in either Super Duper! or Carbon Copy Cloner. AS Lynne
highlighted in her article, there is another way to backup an entire volume
without the need for any additional utilities. But that involves going into
the Terminal and issuing commands. Some users would quite naturally find that
a little daunting. As the administrator of the servers upon which this list is
managed, I have had to learn how to use the terminal. Super Duper! and Carbon
Copy Cloner have saved me hours of work in the past, I'd be the first to admit
that. But again, what I am talking about here is data retrieval, not backup
restoration. I hope that clarifies things a little.

Gordon,

Have you all thought of trying Superdooper? It's way cheaper, and it actually
makes a 100% snapshot image of whatever drive volume partition you wish. It's
ridiculously accessible, and the documentation might as well have been written
for an infant, as it is so easy to understand. I would highly! highly! highly!
highly highly! recommend it!
