Besides System Preferences not sticking, other issues reported have ranged from the Finder becoming bogged down, especially if you try to access an external drive or network share. Also, Safari will be quite slow and exhibit busy signals quite often and VoiceOver will sometimes not start when the system boots, even if it has been left on at shutdown.
