Have done lots of internet shopping and
bidding/winning from the states - some get dinged for
duties some don't - it's hit and miss BUT - yes -
EVERYTHING that goes through a broker seems to get
their fees plus duty unless specifically noted that it
was made in the USA!
Worse I had was an auction item won at $100 US - the
sender insured it and thinking he was doing me/us a
favour if it got lost - declared the value at $500 - I
got stuck with duty on a $500 item worth $100.
Gave up trying to win an appeal with Revenue Canada -
Postal is best - some get hit some don't - depends
who's working and how bored they are I guess.
