>> Doesn't UPS use "their own guys" and wasn't that part of their problem?
FedEx good, UPS very, very bad. No, in my experience, UPS subcontracts your package to local contractors, and this has caused a major problem for me every time. Especially since UPS won't tell you who the local people are. In one case, the local agent was an acquaintance who didn't realize I was back in town, so he didn't leave the package at my paper instead of the home address on the package (his usual procedure, he knows I get to the newspaper office eventually). Course, if UPS had told me who the local agent was, it would have saved my having to wait three extra days. FedEx, on the other hand, even through the shipping problems caused by the WTC tragedy, still did an excellent job of getting my package to me, and letting me know where it was, and not charging me a $50 brokerage fee. Sorry, I know that was a bit of a rant, but my experiences with UPS have been so abysmal, and my experiences with FedEx so good - one of their drivers actually stopped in the parking lot to take a package from me when she realized I had missed the daily pickup... Anyhow, I try to make a point of telling people what poor service and support UPS has provided me.
