BMW & Mercedes don't really do any mass-marketing and they do quite well.
Their advertising is targeted. Of course, an Apple is a lot more accessible
to the unwashed masses than a BMW or Mercedes ;)

What is a little scary is what will happen in the future. I'm a Mac user
through and through and have been so since day 1 (1984 and 9 Macs later) yet
I now see my next computer being a PeeCee if Windows XP is any good. Macs
are cool and OS X is neat but Windows is now usable, and comparable no-name
hardware is now ***much*** cheaper. The high speed Pentium III and IVs
CLOBBER the iMacs on a price-to-performance basis, not to mention features.
I will *never* again own an iMac (I had a Rev A for about a year, a nice
machine but they are crippled for upgradeability (RAM + CPU) and new towers
are twice to three times the price of comparable Pentium towers. The
cheapest G4/733 128/40 + 17" KDS Trinitron with only a CD-RW is ~$3400
($2600+350*1.15). A similarly equipped Dell P4 at 1.7 GHz (gives a 766 MHz
G4 a run for its money) comes at ~$2200 (1900*1.15), $1200 LESS!!! The iMacs
by comparison are useless b/c they're limited by their 15" monitors.

I just hope Apple keeps on chugging. Without Apple who will be there to keep
MicroSloth on their toes.
