Yes, I have an "iCrap" and I found that choice of language a little
insulting. To me, "crap" means poor quality. The iMac is not poor
quality, it is a good quality "basic" computer. Some friends bought a
well known name brand PC around the same time I bought my iMac. They are
on their third computer and about the 5th hard drive. Now, that is what
I call "crap". Luckily all replacements were covered by the extended
warranty they bought, but each time they lost some data and were without
a computer for a while.

That's me. When the iMac DV came out with FireWire and iMovie, I thought
"That's exactly what I want to do with my computer!" and ran out and
bought an iMac and a digital video camera. I had been considering a G4
with the new-at-the-time 22" Cinema Display, but came to my senses and
realized an iMac will do what I "need".

My Performa 580 (6 year old iMac ancestor) is the computer I use when my
son is hogging the iMac to play Shockwave games. I also have two Colour
Classics (8 year old iMac ancestors). One Colour Classic is upgraded
(Mystic) so the kids can use it for CD-ROM games. The other is waiting
for me to find the time and a Power Mac 6500 to upgrade it to Power
Colour Classic status. Then it will replace the Performa. Up until 10
months ago, this "upgrade limited" Colour Classic amazed the PC users at
work: scanning and editing images, writing and illustrating manuals,
creating PDF files and web pages, submitting files to the printshop over
the network, and all with a 512x384 screen. 1024x768 on my iMac is not
too small for me.

That's why I told the department head an iMac is fine when they decided
to replace the PC I hadn't been using. I could have asked for a G4 with
a 22" monitor, but the truth is, the iMac is overkill for what I do at
work. Everything gets done a little faster than using the Colour
Classic, but not much.

So, to the original poster, please don't apply your PC advertising
induced "bigger numbers are better" thinking to the iMac. If you want a
17" screen and 1.7 GHz for $1200, buy a PC. But, be forewarned, my
"iCrap" has outlasted three such computers.
