Let us also look at this from a support perspective: Mac vs. PC world,
seeing as I have a somewhat rare perspective (I've been 'support' and
'repairing' both for more than 7 years now).

Just recently I had a iMac with the 'flashing question mark' and a PC
with the 'Invalid system disk error', essentially the equivalent problem
for both machines, the cases were of similar difficulty as well, even
though the PC was a mini-tower it had hidden (not easily identified or
located) release catches.

Both resellers said a format and re-install was necessary and good luck
recovering the data.

PC - took ten hours

iMac - 1 hour

I made full data recovery on both but still managed to lose the coveted
bookmarks for the PC. The PC's condition was found to be caused by a
virus and the Mac's was an intentional user screw up, I found out, just
to test my ability.

Now you may argue the iMac had a software recovery CD, so did the PC.
The iMac's recovery cd allows you to restore in place, well this
particular PC would let you do the same (a very unusual occurrence in my
experience).

Now from a support perspective you can understand why I love PC's, cuz'
they pay my bills, and I love Macintosh products as a break from the PC
world. You may ask what do I own, not one PC machine in my household
though I have been given a few, which I fixed up and gave away at some
point. Mac's I have aplenty, and will continue to for quite some time.

<biggest snip I could make>
