Quick question. Im just erasing my hard drive on my G4 desktop and I wanted to know if using Norton Utilities was good enough to wipe it clean with? or is there another program that will do a better job.

So far I wiped the drive clean twice in all areas (old files etc) I'm preparing to install OSX Panther and will await some advice.

Getting back on topic...

It appears that you want to erase the drive solely for the purposes of having it clean for a new install. If that is the case then just doing the erase and install from the Panther CD is perfectly fine. In fact, you have likely erased all that you need to. Nothing super has to be done.

Now, if you want the data completely removed because you plan to sell and have some security worries. Then, what you want is to format and zero all data. That takes a long time but can be accomplished by doing a format and selecting to erase volume and clicking the zero all blocks button. Various versions of disk utilities have this in different spots but it won't be hard to find. Note that this does not make an installation of Panther any better or make your disk look "cleaner" to any standard software you install. It is only a security measure.
