Hi Gavin

I use a version of this already with Apple's own AppleTel software that came
with the Apple Personal Communications Kit ie internal modem (I think
hardware and software were versions of Global Village products). This stuff
is from the era of eWorld and System 7.1 and was designed for the
630/5200/6200/6300 chassis (It came with my old 6300 originally and I moved
it onto a 6360 with a 300mhz upgrade I imported a couple of years ago). I
want to duplicate that facility on a new Cube (Apple dropped the telephony
functions with the first blue G3 internal modems).

The AppleTel software has a contacts name/address/phone & fax number list
that gives one-click voice and fax dialling a la Teleport. I use the thing
all the while and it saves endless time in looking up and dialling. I
suppose there are other ways of doing this - what are they by the way?

I use an external mic/earpiece with it for taking & receiving calls without
having to stop keyboarding or whatever (I run my own business).

Since we conversed last I've found two other possible solutions one via the
web Digicom do a Mac USB speakerphone modem, the Botticelli (and is BABT
approved). The other was sitting in the attic! I'd forgotten my wife had
bought a GV Teleport modem for her work some years ago and then ended up
never using it. I stumbled on it while looking for something else, it's a
Teleport 33.6 Internet edition but when I looked inside it's actually a UK
version of the US Speakerphone model. I'm going to give it a try via a
Keyspan USB adapter next weekend and find out if the USB port has as much
power as the serial port that was intended to drive it. Any idea whether it
might?

Sorry about the length of the post!

John
