Ok Lindsey

I think if your definately sure you want to bin everything in there and
there is a LOT of stuff in there its time to get down and dirty and pry
under the bonnet of OS X into the Unix environment.

The best Tutorial on how to do this ive found is at the following
location...

http://www.osxfaq.com/Tutorials/LearningCenter/HowTo/Trash/index.ws

It goes through various scenarios that may be stopping you emptying your
Trashcan, and gives lots of different ways to tackle the problem. If your
course of action DOES take you into the terminal and into UNIX I advise you
to read, re-read and then read again the intructions to make sure you fully
understand what you are doing and what might happen if you get it wrong.

The amount of stuff thats in your trashcan (and I know how much design stuff
you can get through in a short time, I just archived 3 months work onto 9
DVDs) would make it a very time consuming task going through checking for
immutables and locked files so you may just have to go straight for using
the very destructive tools in the terminal.

I might have put you off delving into UNIX, but if you take it slow, UNIX
can make some very complex head banging against the wall problems very
simple to resolve.

Hope this info helps you.

Be Careful
