Anyone who is in a forward looking business like Apple runs on R&D. More money = better and widerspread R&D = better products that are, as an upshot better value.
O' course there are downsides like the threat of virus authors actually twigging on that Apple is a platform worthy of attention (*if* they can get around the UNIX security), diluted tech support, loss of exclusivity etc., but they balance with the advantages.
