What's the point in 200fps when your monitor runs at 100Hz at best anyway? Few average users add any expansion cards anyway, so, the underlying technologies matter little, in my opinion.
As you said, the included applications make or break it for most users. Ilife is certainly a better package for the home user compared to MS Works. I wouldn't go as far as saying Windows is crap, but, simplicity of use is a key factor for most users. I myself find it hard to believe that Photoshop performs better on an x86 machine than a G5, having seen it rendering on both a 3.2GHz Pentium Extreme machine and a dual 2GHz G5 (basically the same cost). Almost every benchmark is in some way fundamentally flawed anyway - with it favouring one machine over another. Throwing a PC out of a window is something that is unlikely to happen and that's what home insurance is for! Few home users are going to buy something at the level of a G5 or a top-end machine. A fairer test would have been a eMac vs. eMachine type PC, where the eMac would have fairly trounced the low-end x86 machine. Apple's all-in-one and laptop machines are where the average user looks at x86 vs. PPC. No-one goes into buying a G5 when they are considering an x86 PC. A similar analogy would be Ford vs. Vauxhall and Mercedes vs. BMW. The former is a consideration people would make, whereas you wouldn't buy a Mercedes if you're in the market for a BMW...
