Why would you want to use the BT SMTP server for non-BT accounts? I think most ISP server security requires that the return address tallies with the send address as default.
I have Blueyonder (which is first class) and use their SMTP address for all my outgoing email, using various domains of my own. I don't use my Blueyonder email address.
