I've just bought a new battery for my Wallstreet and, although it
charged up, it will not start up without the mains plugged in. At
first, when I unplugged the mains, it kept going, but this morning it
blacked out when I did that. I have installed Battery Reset 2, but was told that it did not need that. Even with the mains plugged in, I have
to do the reset routine before it will start up. Any suggestions,
please?

Battery and charging issues are VERY common on Wallstreets and I guess most of my fault finding approaches may well not be too helpful for you, but here
goes ...

Is it an Apple battery or 3rd party ?
Third party, bought on eBay.

Any lights on the battery ?
It's showing 3 lights, but if I push on it, the machine crashes (same with old battery)

Does the battery charge in another machine or a known good battery work in
yours ?
I have no other PB to try it in and the old battery charged all right.

Does it charge with the machine turned off ?
Yes, that's how I charged it and it charged up quickly.

Have you checked that the EMI shielding near the DC in socket isn't shorting
to it ?
Pardon?

Did you do any resets on the machine with the battery in BEFORE you had
problems ?
No. Sometimes the battery icon in the menu bar shows a battery with a black cross on it, at other times it shows a mains plug and 100% in brackets.

Is the PRAM battery good ?
Probably not, as the date resets without the main battery in, or when it has malfunctioned.
Regards
Susan
