Thanks for the damage assessment and outlook, Malcolm. I had the following reply from my question to him: "No idea how crack happened as I am second owner, and it had the
crack when I bought it. The function of this Powerbook is perfect.
The DVDrom drive operates fine. Wifi should fit, but check with a
competent source - try www.clocktower.co.uk, and contact them.
There is not much they dont know about Macs."

This PB is relisted and was withdrawn at a previous maximum bid of around the £300 mark, so why he's asking £400 under Buy It Now is hard to understand, especially with that crack in it.
Regards
Susan

More to the point, I'm not sure that this Powerbook is worth £400.
Given that 1.3 Ghz G4 iBooks can be bought new for £700, and a 1.5
Ghz G4 Mini can be had for just over £400, this seems a lot for a
damaged machine about 3 years old or so.

Prices on G4 Tis are a little strange - I guess due to their poor wear
record, they seem to go for less than I'd expect.

The machine would be between 5 years old and 4 years 3 months old.

That damage is not uncommon and is most likely due to incorrect disassembly.
It may well increase and break the other side of the slot making it
difficult to use a disc without damaging it.

The casing can be replaced but the part comprises all of the top section,
track pad etc. and is hard to find in good condition.

Of course, if you can get it cheap via the auction then that would be
different. But I see that there's a reserve on it, which might well
be set at something silly like £395.....

As always decide what it is worth to you and bid it at the last second.
