The only comment I have not a cheering one. There are the very
important notes from Apple on not interrupting the process once it
starts but they have nothing for when it stops and doesn't do
anything. This happened to an iMac and we had the same problem and
did all the things you have done but it was a non starter. I managed
to get some response out of it but it never worked properly
thereafter. Apple refused to accept any liability and it is a heap of
junk now, after a protracted dispute. I hope you have better luck.

Hi again Listers,
I tried resetting the CUDA button by holding it in for about 20 secs.
I then removed the PRAM battery for 30 mins but when I tried rebooting
there was no difference that before. Still hangs with a grey
screen and no
prompt.
Not sure what to try now, will have to leave it for a while and try
to return to
the problem with a fresh head.
If anyone comes up with any more ideas plaese let me know.
Thanks again
John.
Hi Mary.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I am able to open the DVD - ROM but because the computer will not fully
boot
I am unable to use the keyboard or get it to a desktop in order to
select the startup
disc.
Even trying to start from cold and holding in the "C" will not work as
it will not activate
the USB circuit in order to use the keyboard.
John.

Hi John,
Well, I'm fresh out of ideas after briefly looking on the web on
this. Just a question: Will the machine start up from an OS 9
installer CD? (I gather from your initial post that you have not yet
installed X on it.)
