Hi Again All,

Thanks for the info.

The Screen is just grey with no prompt.

If There was a prompt would I be correct in thinking that I had arrived at the "OPEN FIRMWARE" screen. Then just key "Boot-Mac" would take me back to the
desktop ? and I could try again.

I also have no keyboard working at this stage of booting so no key operations possible,

Will have a go at resetting the PRAM, but from a cold boot one needs the keyboard
which is not available until I get it to boot fully.

I think that if you reset the CUDA button this does the same or remove the PRAM battery
for 30 mins or so. Am I on the right track ?.

When I upgrade to 10 on my Wallstreet I had problems but once sorted 10 was brilliant and
I did not have to update the FIRMWARE.

Thanks again

John Abraham

I have just got a blank screen with no smiling mac as it stops booting.

Blank screen with a flashing prompt?

I'd try resetting PRAM if you haven't already. I had a lot of trouble
booting into MacOS X when I updated my beige G3 - kept on getting the old OpenFirmware prompt, but without the Keyboard working (so could not type
any commands etc.) Usually, resetting the PRAM from a cold boot worked.
The jump from Classic to OS X is scary. Well worth the panic though ;-)

I realise you're in a slightly different situation, but it
