OK, so try blowing it away and starting again:

sudo rm -rf /Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs /Library/Frameworks/ MacFUSE.framework /Library/PreferencePanes/MacFUSE.prefPane /usr/local/ lib/libfuse* /usr/local/include/fuse

If you can't install it again, then try installing:

/Volumes/MacFUSE 2.0/MacFUSE.pkg/Contents/Resources/10.6/MacFUSE Core.pkg

first, then the other one.

Finally, the log is written to /tmp/.macfuse-install.log

Lastly, to skip the embedded check, try doing:

touch /tmp/.macfuse-force-embedded

to force it to use the embedded version instead of checking for other updates.

Finally, note that there is a higher download than the one mentioned in your file:

http://macfuse.googlecode.com/files/MacFUSE-2.0.3%2C2.dmg

You might want to give that a try, if you're getting it from somewhere else.

It may be that it's detecting a previously-installed copy in / Library/
Receipts/ - are there any references to the previous MacFuse there?
