Heh, just beat my reply :) Rewriting: "Gecko" engine.
Camino splintered off before Firefox came about when Mozilla was pretty clunky on OS X (and possibly still trying to support OS 9?). I expect it to die someday or fold back into Firefox, but I have no idea on the group dynamics and technical decisions involved. Firefox is a trimmed down, web-only version of what could be considered as Mozilla 2.0. It has a healthy plugin system, so to make your browser pretend to be IE on Windows, you can download a plugin and choose (I think, unsure about the Windows part there but seems logical). I'm still on Camino 0.7 (they're on 0.8 now), but found it clunky, whereas Firefox 0.8 (0.9.1 now) felt far healthier. I still use Safari for most of my quick browsing and Firefox for more prolonged sessions. Oddly, I find tabbed browsing slightly nicer in Safari as Firefox doesn't like to tell me which keyboard shortcut moves tabs (anyone?). Safari has one major grumble for me. If I try to open file:///Users/hen/osj/trunk/multidoc/ it opens the crappy Finder and doesn't display the local directory in the browser. Seems stupid really as Safari is based on Konquerer which is a full Finder replacement.
