If the camera uses smart media, compact flash, etc. you can use it  
(regardless of brand name) with ANY Mac that has USB support [be it  
direct or though a USB pci card.
Just get one of the readers (about $30 - $40). Pull the media card from  
the camera, pop it in the reader and then Image Capture will grab the  
photos and do what you want with them (download, put in iPhoto etc.).  
This really saves on battery life in the field!!!!!

One thing to note about the card readers: make sure they define their  
selves as being Mass Media devices. If they don't (one that for example  
does not is the MicroTech USB CameraMate), then you will have to wait  
for the manufacturer to release updates for the reader every time Apple  
updates OS-X.

Now if you are staying in OS-9, then the drivers are already written.
