I found the answer to my Mac Help problem (all my Help links gave the 
result: "TopicListNoResults").

A help file named "DataDirect help.help" in my 
<Disk>/Library/Documentation/Help/ folder was the culprit. After 
deleting it, Mac Help once again works fine. I'm not exactly sure where 
this file came from, except that it is related to some ODBC utilities I 
had downloaded several months ago.

I found the answer on the Apple discussion boards in the form of a link 
to the following web site, which I would recommend to anyone who's 
having trouble with the Mac's Help Viewer application:
