You can still do that in OS-X, but I cannot remember what you need to 
do in Print Center to get this.

Have you considered keeping the Utility in the Dock? If you want to do 
that, start it going again. The icon will show up in the Dock. Click on 
the icon in the dock and hold the mouse button down. A little menu will 
pop up with several choices. One of them is to "keep the in the dock". 
Select this one. Now hold down the option key and click on the icon 
again and then you can move it to the left and put it where-ever you 
want it to be. (Note: this will work with any application. There are 
similar tricks for folders and documents, but they won't move over the 
left-right divider bar.
