I have an 80gb LaCie hard drive which I use for back up. LaCie has FREE
backup software, "SilverKeeper." With SilverKeeper you can schedule your
backups at startup or shut down or at a specific time during the day.

I've set my computer to shut down at midnight and restart at 6:15 a.m.
I've scheduled Silverkeeper to back up at 6:30 a.m. By the time I check
email the computer is on, ready to go the hard drive has been backed up.

LaCie's software will work with other hard drives. I've been told you
can't use the scheduling function with another companies hard drive, but
I have not found this to be true. I tested it on one of my internal hard
drive partions and it worked fine.
