It was not all that long ago that cameras yielding 640 x 480 @72dpi cost
$1500+ and really did not print all that well. I do not dispute that
today one can buy a very good camera for under $1000 that will print
superb 8 x 10s (or smaller) as I use them professionally quite often.
Costs will drop as time goes on, barring some bizarre turn of events.
What is significant is the fact that now the advantages of digital with
the quality of film are available to the prosumer. The implications are
staggering (weellllll, they are if you let them).
