With a project in progress involving copies of home video to be given to
friends, I?ve been lurking on the digest and following with interest 1) word
that
paper labels melt off DVDs, 2) LuAnn?s progress (or lack of) with the
Epson R220, and 3) news of Discus 3 label app. Figuring that would solve my
problem, too, I bought an R220, made arrangements with local pro video photog
to
make copies on printable DVDs. In a rush on the way to his place, I picked
up printable DVDs at Office Depot. At the photog?s, he told me 1) my DVDs
were compatible with only 30 per cent of players and 2) he?d never had a
problem with paper labels, nor had he ever heard of one. So I had him make my
copies on his blanks (profit was clearly not his motive; he charged me only 50
cents for premium Verbatim blanks). Came home, made nifty paper labels on my
ole HP 5150. Meanwhile, I had tried Discus 3 demo, loved it, bought it,
assuming (mistakenly) it would print on the R220. Apparently R220 supports
only
Epson Print CD, which is junk -- slow, clumsy, un-userfriendly. Everything
Discus 3 is not. So long lovely custom labels-printed-on DVD. Remains to be
seen: 1) if paper labels melt, 2) what players my cheap Office Depot DVDs are
compatible with, and 3) what I?ll do with the R220. Will report findings.
Note to LuAnn: I?ve messed with Epson Print CD only enough to know I hate
it, but will check again and see if I can detect your problem with changing
text to white. exPRESSit is a good app, but unstable and nothing compared to
Discus 3, which will print the labels you got with exPRESSit. Apologies to
all
for long message; I?m otherwise silent most of the time.
