You didn't mention if you were running OS X or not on the iBook. If
you're still running OS 9.x on it, you'll have to make some networking
changes to connect via Airport.

1. Under Control Panels, open TCP/IP.
2. In the TCP/IP settings, your current configuration is probably set
up to use Ethernet and connect via DHCP. Hit Command-K to edit your
configurations.
3. Hit the Duplicate button to copy your current setup, call the new
copy Airport and make it active.
4. Change Ethernet to Airport, leave the DHCP field the same.
5. Close TCP/IP saving changes.
6. Under the Apple Menu, click Airport and make sure your airport card
is turned on.

Now you should be able to connect to a wireless network and surf.

When you are ready to connect again via ethernet, open TCP/IP, hit
Command+K and select your original configuration. Click the Make Active
button, which will bring you back to your TCP/IP window. Close the
window and save your settings.

If you are using OS X, it's much simpler. Once your Airport card has
detected an open network, you will be prompted to connect, and asked if
you want to save the connection information so you can connect to the
network again later.

If you aren't using a wireless connection on a regular basis, turn the
card off. You'll save some battery power.
